Please review the following update regarding Anti Social Behaviour which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.
Albert Crescent – Chingford Mount ASB
The issue:
There are continued complaints regarding nuisance individuals consuming alcohol within Albert Crescent. This has led to increased anti-social behaviour, criminal offences and trespass offences.
How are we dealing with it?
Police are working closely with our partners at Waltham Forest Local Authority. We have engaged a range of tactics to implement measures to eradicate the continued ASB at the location. This process is ongoing and involves additional partners supporting and assisting us.
Those individuals that require outreach support such as rehabilitation programmes, housing, medical intervention/ support have been identified, and measures have been put in place to ensure they are supported and counselled as appropriate.
ASB warnings, Community Protection Warnings & Community Protection Notices (CPWs & CPNs) have been issued, and prosecution cases are being prepared for court. CCTV evidence is being compiled and utilised, as well as accounts from those most affected.
We regularly patrol with the local authority enforcement officers and ASB team, ensuring we are collaborating and working together to resolve the ongoing issue. We hold progress meetings to ensure each case is discussed and progressed effectively.
Chingford Mount Taskforce contains representatives from the LA of Waltham Forest including the compliance and recycling team, violence reduction team, town centre activation & engagement team, ASB team, regeneration team & safer neighbourhood team (MPS) This allows us to facilitate changes to the environment to design out crime and anti-social behaviour.
We are aware of the frustrations of residents, retailers and those that travel through or visit Albert Crescent. We seek your assistance and patience whilst we tackle this issue. Please continue to report your complaints, this assists our enforcement activities & allows us to utilise CCTV to capture offences.
Our officers will be out on the ground next week alongside enforcement officers, if you have concerns please do let them know.
What you can do:
If you know the people involved, or they seem approachable, our first advice would be to talk to them peacefully. After all, they may not be aware they’re causing a problem. If they are trespassing on your property, you have the right to ask them to leave. However, do not take the law into your own hands by intervening, such as making physical threats or attempting to confiscate items. You may make the situation worse and even risk committing an offence yourself. If talking hasn’t worked, or you would prefer not to talk to those involved, there are a number of ways to get help and support.
